Gary's story

It started while building our own home

Four years ago, while my wife and I were building our house, I started making some of the furniture and finishing the closet spaces myself. We had extra inventory, and before long the neighbors started requesting pieces of their own.

I thought it would be a good hobby for retirement. It has been great. What began with a few neighborly requests grew into Jan Decor Company, and today we build custom tables, furniture, and built-ins for families across Yelm, Olympia, and the South Sound.

Our processes look a lot like other woodshops. The difference shows up in the finished piece.

You drive the design

Every piece is designed by the customer. You choose the wood, color, size, and accessories, and we’re with you on every decision. Our favorite clients are passionate about the project they’re creating, because we are too.

Locally sourced materials

All of our wood is sourced locally. The slab on your table grew in this region, and we think that makes it mean a little more for a South Sound home.

Fabricated in house

Every part is fabricated in our Yelm shop, from milling and flattening to finishing. Nothing is outsourced, so nothing gets lost in translation.
